Counter window for police and government service desks
A police station or government service desk receives members of the public the staff member does not know — from a routine report to a tense situation. That calls for a counter that feels accessible to the visitor while staying safe for the employee behind it. A bullet-resistant counter window with an integrated transfer drawer lets you exchange documents, ID cards or forms without giving up the physical separation between the two zones.
For counters where speech through thick glass is a problem, we supply a counter intercom that carries the conversation clearly and without delay — an important detail when a visitor comes to report something urgent or sensitive. Government service desks with a lower risk profile often choose a lighter combination of transfer drawer and intercom, without the full bullet-resistant counter window; police stations generally choose the heavier combination.
Our transfer drawer range includes both pendulum and sliding drawers, in versions from FB4 to FB7, so a transfer drawer without a full counter window can still offer certified bullet resistance where that is needed. Wurster has been the Belgian distributor of this range since 1956 and supplies it both as a standard model and bespoke for a specific counter.
Standards
FB4 is in practice the base class for counters with public traffic. For reinforced counters and defence applications, FB6 is generally used — worth considering for police stations in an urban setting with a higher risk profile. Our counter windows are available as standard in FB4; for a heavier execution, our engineers review the options within the bespoke line with you. More explanation of the FB4-FB7 classes is available on our standards page.

Frequently asked questions
- Which bullet-resistance class fits a police station?
- FB4 is the common base class for counters with public traffic. In practice, FB6 is used for reinforced counters and defence applications — relevant for police stations with a higher risk profile. More explanation of the FB4-FB7 classes is available on our standards page.
- Can a counter window be combined with an intercom?
- Yes. The Clarson Public III counter intercom is designed to work with a counter window or façade hatch, so voice comes through clearly despite the bullet-resistant glass.
- Is a transfer drawer needed in addition to a counter window?
- That depends on your counter. Some counter windows already integrate a transfer drawer; where that is not the case, a separate transfer drawer can be added for documents or ID cards.
- Is a bespoke option available for a municipal service desk?
- Yes, besides the standard models we also supply bespoke counter windows, sized to the dimensions and layout of your existing counter.
